Apple’s Newest iPhone 12 Pro for Vlogging.
October 2020 presented to us the newest, most expensive, most awaited phone of the year, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The phone had not released in India, but I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I wanted iPhone 12 Pro because it would fulfill my vlogging needs. I could replace my bulky camera and mic with a sleek phone that would achieve the same purpose.
Why iPhone 12 Pro?
I got my Apple iPhone 12 Pro, 256 GB, 6 GB RAM, with OLED Super Retina XDR display in the colour pacific blue. This flagship is the first to introduce 5G connectivity for faster downloads and uploads. It is something that I’m excited to try when I’m travelling and vlogging. The biggest challenge is finding a data service provider in India who will give me that speed.
I chose iPhone 12 Pro for vlogging and not iPhone 12 Pro Max because I am not particularly fond of huge phones.
Some of the other features that were the deciding factors were iPhone 12 models support dual SIM. Which means I can use two phone numbers at one time. Additionally, both iPhone models support fast charging using a Lightning to USB-C cable and a power adapter.
iPhone 12 Pro for vlogging
Some more reasons why this phone is perfect for vlogging. It has an Ultra-Wide camera, which is an amazing addition. I love how easily you can capture stunning wide shots, for both pictures and videos.
It offers the best stabilization for photos and videos that I have ever experienced. The videos almost look like it has been shot using a professional DSLR. You can record videos at up to 60 frames per second in 4K, 1080p, and 720p recording.
Both the models introduced HDR video recording with Dolby Vision. However, we don’t need HDR footage for social media or daily use. This feature is an add-on for professional filmmaking, high-quality videos, and vlogging.
Why Not iPhone 12 Pro?
The iPhone does not come with a power adapter or EarPods in the box. You have to purchase them separately.
Additionally, I noticed, the HDR video recording in Dolby Vision gave me some problems after I transferred the footages to my MacBook. The video was flickering on Final Cut Pro X and the whole video had become monochrome. I am expecting these issues to be resolved with further software updates.
Even though Apple has improved its low-light performance and there was considerable noise reduction in the videos shot at night, I would still not prefer this phone for vlogging in low light.
Camera Features for Photography
Triple-Lens Rear Camera definitely helps for vlogging and photography. You can now easily take better portrait shots during the day and even at night.
I noticed low-light photos of well-lit buildings and streetlights were very detailed. Night mode performance is better than before, but there’s still a long way to go.
